The Hiranga Story logo

We produce small-batch, hand-crafted liqueurs from Mānuka honey: nature's finest gift.

Hiranga

In Māori, Hiranga means the state of being esteemed, well respected or held in the highest regard.

About Us

We are a small New Zealand business with a tiny team of two, based in Taupō, North Island, New Zealand.

Our land

The pristine, high altitude landscape where our Mānuka honey is produced was the food basket of our ancestors.

Nature's Finest Gift

Hiranga Manuka Honey Liqueur is produced in small batches and is all hand-made. It contains no artificial ingredients or preservatives and is unfiltered so it retains all of it’s goodness.

We’ve created this as the perfect New Zealand gift – made from one of the finest, pure and natural ingredients produced in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Our People

Graeme and Doug are based in Taupō, close to the wild, untamed land where our Mānuka honey is produced- the North Island's Central Plateau. Our focus is on the production of a small-batch, hand-crafted liqueur that is a perfect, unique, quality product from Aoteroa, New Zealand - a perfect gift.

We are passionate about quality – from maintaining the unspoiled, pristine, high-altitude, natural environment where the honey is produced, to the packaging and choice of  Italian glass bottles used to contain our Mānuka Honey Liqueur. Every effort is made to uphold a quality product and we are extremely proud of the result.

We’ve seen first-hand the esteem that New Zealand Mānuka honey is held in internationally so we have set out to create a quality liqueur celebrating its complexity and flavour,  to be gifted and enjoyed amongst friends.

As New Zealand Māori, our appreciation of the whenua (land) spans thousands of years and defies the boundaries of time. We've been in no hurry to produce our liqueur and have perfected our recipe over a number of years.

The Pristine Land

Hiranga Mānuka honey is produced in the mountainous country between the Kaweka and Kaimanawa ranges on the Central Plateau of New Zealand’s North Island.

The land sits at high altitudes, it is wild, windswept, and snow-covered in winter, accessible only by helicopter.

It is a harsh country, which means there are no other flowers in the area at the same time as the Mānuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium).

The lack of other flora creates high-quality Mānuka honey: uniquely flavoured and arguably some of New Zealand’s best.
